Golf Carts Black Rock

Black Rock

Golf Cart Sales, Custom Builds and Service for Black Rock, Coeur d'Alene

At Black Rock your golf cart is not a golf accessory. It is how you get to the clubhouse for dinner, down to the marina with the kids, over to a neighbor’s for drinks, and back up the hill afterward. It runs most days from May through October, and it usually carries more than two people and a bag.

Amped Up Carts sells, builds and services carts for exactly that. We work out of a shop in Post Falls, about forty minutes from the Black Rock gate, and we pick up and deliver. Nothing needs trailering, and you do not need to be at the house when we come.

Inside the Gate

Black Rock, and Why It Gets Overlooked

Black Rock does not appear in city data, because it is not a city. It is a private gated community with a Coeur d’Alene address, and anyone working from census figures will skip past it.

We know it because we drive out there. The terrain, the distances and the way carts actually get used inside that gate are different enough from a flat suburban street to be worth talking about properly.

Terrain

The Terrain, and What It Does to a Golf Cart

The Golf Club at Black Rock covers around 700 acres above the west shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene, south of downtown. It opened in 2003 as the first gated private golf community in Coeur d’Alene, and the Jim Engh course took Golf Digest’s Best New Private Course award that year. Glacial movement shaped the site, and the elevation changes are not subtle. The third hole drops about 200 feet into a valley. The residential roads run through the same landscape.

Grade

Coming up from the marina or the beach with four aboard loads the motor and the brakes in a way flat driving never does. A stock golf cart manages it. You can hear it managing, and the brakes tell you about it by the second season.

Distance

Homesites here run from about a third of an acre to two acres across a large property. Add the 31,000 square foot clubhouse, the Kids Only Clubhouse, the marina and the beach, and the daily mileage adds up faster than people expect. Range turns into the thing you notice, usually around six in the evening with a low pack and dinner uphill.

Load

Lake days mean coolers, towels, chairs, dogs and more passengers than seats. Owners who buy a four seater here tend to be asking about six within a season.

Building for the terrain at the start costs less than repairing it later. That is most of what we end up telling people at Black Rock.

Buy or Trade Up

Buying a Golf Cart for Black Rock

We sell new golf carts and finished custom builds on Evolution, ICON EV and STAR EV platforms. We build on those rather than selling whatever came off a container, and we set a cart up for the property before it goes out rather than after.

That usually means the right battery for the hills, seating for the number of people who actually get in, and lighting for the ride home in the dark. We would rather sort it before delivery than have you buy twice.

Upgrade or Replace

Already Own a Golf Cart?

If you have a golf cart that is not suited to the property, you have two options and we will tell you honestly which one makes sense. Sometimes the right answer is upgrading what you have, usually a battery and a seating change. Sometimes the cart has reached the end of what it can usefully do on that terrain and you are better off starting again. Ask us about your current cart when you call and we will give you a straight assessment either way.

Pricing

What a Build Costs

We broke down what custom work actually costs in the Inland Northwest in this pricing guide, and Black Rock builds usually sit toward the upper end of it because of the terrain.

Every build is quoted individually, because no two are the same. A lithium conversion on a cart you already own sits at one end. A ground up six seater with a lift, extended range and custom interior sits well beyond it. Tell us how the cart gets used and we will give you a number on the first call, then a written quote separating parts from labor before anything is ordered.

Upgrades

Golf Cart Builds and Upgrades for Black Rock

The upgrade that changes the most on this terrain. Lithium holds voltage under load instead of sagging the way lead acid does, and sagging voltage is what you feel halfway up a climb. It sheds a lot of weight and needs almost no maintenance. More on lithium conversions

Rear flip seats, full six seat conversions, marine grade upholstery that survives wet swimsuits and August sun. On a cart carrying six up a grade, springs and brakes are worth looking at in the same visit. More on custom seating

Ground clearance for gravel drives and unpaved paths, and a stance that suits the property. If the golf cart also needs to go on the course, read the section below on course rules before choosing tires. More on wheel and tire packages

Shoulder season at the lake is colder and wetter than most people plan for. An enclosure adds a month at either end of the season.

The most common reason people at Black Rock call us about lights is the drive back from the clubhouse on unlit private roads.

Covered further down. More on street legal work

Rear cargo boxes, coolers, covers, mirrors, sound systems, phone mounts, dog barriers. Small things, but they decide whether the cart gets used the way you pictured.

Course or Community

Course Use and Community Use Are Two Different Builds

This is the part people get wrong, and it is worth sorting out before you spend money.

A golf cart built for the residential side of Black Rock and a golf cart allowed on the course are usually not the same vehicle. Private clubs set their own rules for member-owned carts, and while the details differ from club to club, the pattern is consistent. Expect the pro shop to require registration, an annual trail fee, liability insurance, and turf-saver tires that will not mark greens and fairways. Plenty of clubs also set appearance standards, and some restrict seating, which means four and six seaters are not always permitted on the course.

That runs directly against what makes a good lake and hill cart. A lift kit with larger, more aggressive tires is the right answer for gravel drives and steep ground. It is also the thing most likely to keep you off the course.

That leaves three sensible routes. A course legal build runs turf tires at standard ride height, with seating and appearance that meet club standards. Slower and lower, and it goes wherever golf goes. A community build is the opposite: lifted, six seats, cargo, extended range, able to handle the grades and carry everyone down to the marina, and staying off the course entirely.

The third route is two golf carts, which is more common at Black Rock than people expect. We would rather say that plainly than sell you one vehicle that does both jobs badly.

We build to any of these. Tell us how you actually play and where the cart needs to go, and we will steer you to the right one. Confirm current requirements with the Black Rock pro shop before ordering, since clubs update their policies and yours is the only version that counts.

Service & Seasons

Golf Carts Service and Repair Black Rock

Golf carts at Black Rock work hard through a short season, then sit for six months. Both halves cause problems, and the second half causes more than people expect.

A full service covers brake adjustment and cleaning, an electrical system test, battery load testing, wheel alignment, tire pressure and a road test on something with a grade to it. We fit MadJax, Navitas, Red Dot, Reliance, GTW and Trojan components, and our technicians are factory certified.

A Season at the Lake

April and May

Season opening service. Battery, brakes, tires, and whatever seized over winter. Book before Memorial Day or you will be waiting, because everyone at the lake wants their cart running the same two weeks.

June through September

Running repairs. This is when brakes and tires wear on hill properties, and when a marginal battery finally gives up.

October

Winterization. Pack charged correctly, cart under cover, everything set to survive the gap.

November through March

Quiet months, and the right time for a full custom build. A cart needing bodywork and interior takes weeks. Starting in June means missing half the summer.

Pickup & Delivery

Golf Cart Pickup and Delivery Through the Gate

Black Rock is gated, and we plan around that rather than turning up and hoping.

Pickups and deliveries are scheduled ahead, and we coordinate access with whoever you nominate, whether that is the gate, the club, or a property manager holding keys while you are out of state. A good share of our lake work happens with the owner somewhere else entirely.

Most service comes back to the Post Falls shop where the tools and parts are. Smaller jobs we can often finish on site.

From the Black Rock gate it is north on Rockford Bay Road to Highway 95, then north to I-90 and west into Post Falls. Roughly forty minutes, though most Black Rock customers never make the drive.

West Shore

Rockford Bay and the West Shore

Black Rock sits inside the wider Rockford Bay area, and we cover the surrounding west shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene on the same run. That takes in the Estates at Black Rock Bay, the smaller gated enclave of estate parcels outside the main gate, along with lakefront properties around Kidd Island Bay and Mica Bay.

The needs look much the same. Steep driveways toward the water, gravel in places, long gaps between visits, and a golf cart that has to start reliably after sitting.

Lithium & Winter

Lithium Batteries and North Idaho Winters

The question we get more than any other, and it deserves a straight answer.

Lithium packs discharge fine in the cold. Charging below freezing is what causes damage, which is why a decent pack includes a battery management system that blocks charging until the cells warm. Some packs leave it out, which is where owners get caught out buying on price alone.

For a house sitting quiet from October through May, store the cart under cover with the pack partially charged, and leave it disconnected rather than plugged in all winter. Lithium copes with long storage far better than lead acid, which will quietly sulfate over one unused season and be dead when you come back for Memorial Day.

We go through this at handover, and we handle winterization and season opening service so the cart is ready the week you arrive rather than the week after.

Fleet & HOA

Fleet, Rental and HOA Carts

Black Rock runs an HOA, a rental program and club operations. Managing several carts is a different job from looking after one. It runs on scheduled maintenance, common parts kept on the shelf, and someone answering the phone when a cart is down on a Saturday in July.

If you look after carts at Black Rock rather than owning one, call us and we will put together a maintenance schedule that fits how they get used.

Our Process

How It Works

It starts with a conversation, by phone or at the shop and always by appointment. We want to know how the golf cart gets used, who rides in it, where it goes and what the driveway looks like. From that you get a written quote, itemized with parts and labor separated, before anything is ordered.

Build time depends on the work. A lithium conversion is quick. A full custom build with bodywork runs several weeks, which is why winter suits it better than June. When it is ready we deliver to your gate at a time arranged in advance, and we walk you through the golf cart properly rather than handing over keys and driving off.

After that we keep it running. Season opening in spring, winterization in fall, repairs in between.

New carts carry the manufacturer’s warranty, and Amped Up Carts stands behind its own workmanship. We offer 15 percent off for military and first responders.

Why Amped Up

Working With Amped Up Carts

We are a custom shop rather than a lot with rows of carts on it. Most of what leaves here is built to order or an existing golf cart upgraded to do something it could not do before.

Consultations are by appointment, which suits both sides. You get someone’s full attention and a proper conversation about how the golf cart will actually be used, instead of fifteen minutes squeezed between walk ins.

A few things are worth knowing about how Amped Up Carts handles work at Black Rock.

Whoever takes your first call sees the job through to handover, so you are not re-explaining the driveway or the seating to somebody new halfway through a build. Collection and delivery happen at the gate, arranged in advance, at a time that suits and including while you are out of state. Nothing needs towing and nothing needs you present.

Your address stays private. Black Rock is gated for a reason and we treat it that way, which means we do not publish customer names or property locations. If a finished build gets photographed, the photograph is of the golf cart.

One thing comes up here more than anywhere else we work. The Black Rock HOA maintains architectural guidelines, and some owners would rather the golf cart sat comfortably alongside them than stood out on the drive. Color matching, trim and wheel choice can all be held to a brief.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. We pick up and deliver to Black Rock and the surrounding Rockford Bay area from our Post Falls shop, about forty minutes away. Gate access is arranged in advance and you do not need to be at the house.

A stock cart manages, but it works hard, and brakes and motor wear faster than on flat ground. Most owners at Black Rock end up on a lithium pack, often with an upgraded motor and controller, so the cart holds power on the climb up from the marina instead of fading.

Yes. We sell new carts and finished custom builds on Evolution, ICON EV and STAR EV platforms, set up for the property before delivery.

Standard carts under 20 mph cannot be registered with the state and are only allowed on public roads where a local ordinance permits it. A low speed vehicle running 20 to 25 mph can be titled, registered and insured, and is then legal on Idaho roads posted 35 mph or under. We build to LSV specification and provide the paperwork for the DMV.

They discharge fine in the cold. Charging below freezing is what damages them, which a proper battery management system prevents. For a house empty over winter, lithium copes with long storage far better than lead acid, which often will not survive an unused season.

Usually not. Private clubs generally require turf-saver tires and standard ride height on member-owned carts, because lifted carts on aggressive tires mark greens and fairways. Clubs also tend to require registration, a trail fee and liability insurance. Check with the pro shop for the current rules, then we will build to whichever spec you need.

Some households end up with two, one built for the course and one for the hills and the marina run. It depends entirely on how much golf you play. If the cart mostly moves people and gear around the property, a single lifted six seater is usually the better buy.

For smaller jobs, usually yes. Anything involving the battery pack, motor, controller or bodywork comes back to the Post Falls shop.

Yes, one of the more common requests from lake homeowners. It is either a rear flip seat or a full six passenger conversion, and on this terrain springs and brakes are worth checking at the same time.

It depends on spec and parts. A lithium conversion or seating change is short. A full custom build with bodywork and interior runs several weeks, which is why winter is the sensible time to start.

Before Memorial Day. Everyone at the lake wants their cart running the same two weeks, and the calendar fills.

We service multiple carts as well as single ones. If you look after carts at Black Rock, call and we will put a maintenance schedule together.
